The Inspiration
Hensford Park has been designed to be a walkable community – which means most facilities and services people need on a daily basis are within a short walk of their homes.
The landowners are determined that Hensford Park should provide much more than just housing numbers.
A major focus has been on the environment and green spaces. The masterplan shows how existing landscape features have been retained and enhanced with a connected network of paths, circular walks, informal leisure spaces, allotments and orchards.
An extended ecological survey has been undertaken and its recommendations include, among other measures:
Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANGs) to provide a recreational resource for the new community and existing residents as well as links to walking and cycling routes to Dawlish Country Park and the wider area
New planting schemes to include wildlife-friendly species
Sustainable drainage systems designed to be wildlife friendly
Species-rich grassland, or flowering lawns, created to provide shelter and food sources for a range of species
Bird and bat boxes to be provided, on buildings and in trees surrounding the site.
The Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace would incorporate the Langdon Fields County Wildlife Site, enhancing and protecting this asset.
